Conversations: Beauty in Solitude

Join us for a virtual dialogue between Dr. Emin Lelic and Ashley Dimmig as they discuss Seyh Hamdullah’s calligraphy piece from the Walters Art Museum and Mohamed Zakariya’s work from Reed Society’s Beauty in Solitude Exhibition.

Dr. Ashley Dimmig is currently the Wieler-Mellon Postdoctoral Curatorial Fellow in Islamic Art at the Walters Art Museum. Her curatorial work aims to make Islamic art engaging and accessible to audiences in Baltimore and beyond. Within the broad scope of Islamic art history, her fields of specialization include a range of art and architecture from Turkish and Persian spheres in the early modern and modern periods.

Dr. Emin Lelić is a board member of Reed Society and a student of Mohamed Zakariya. He received his doctorate from the University of Chicago, where he defended his dissertation on occult sciences in the Ottoman Empire. His interests include calligraphy, Ottoman, Islamic, Middle Eastern and Balkan history and literature, and horseback riding. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the History Department at Salisbury University.
